We began with an international comparative tasting - in a blind line up we enjoyed the 2015 vintages of Chateau Palmer, Masseto, Dominus and Quintessa. All 100 point wines, all wines of celebrated terroirs, all known for their balance and sexy silky textures this was a heck of a way to start the evening! The conversation was so enlightening, to hear some of our largest collectors of both Napa and Bordeaux describe their perception of Quintessa and break down the individual wines in front of them. Two of our six guests correctly identified the Quintessa but everyone was floored by the wines in front of them. The 2015 was a stellar one across the globe, and it really showed in this line up!
The next flight of wines was one of the most special experiences I have had the opportunity to be a part of. We tasted the individual vineyards from around Rutherford that make up the beautiful wine that we know as Quintessa. Corona, Bench, Dragons Terrace and Mont Calisse were laid side by side while Rodrigo detailed each of the vineyards qualities that they impart on and bring to the final blend.
As a final treat we were among the first in the country to taste the 2016 vintage of Quintessa. WOW! This wine was lovey! Bright, silky, sexy, and juicy- this wine had it going on! Robert Parker gave the 2016 vintage 97+ points, and we give it two very big thumbs up!
“It comes bounding out of the glass like a pedigree pup with exuberant notions of crème de cassis, warm blueberries and black cherries with hints of redcurrants, kirsch, candied violets, crushed rocks, cigar box and fallen leaves plus a waft of truffles. Full, rich and beautifully laced with layers of floral notes and fragrant earth, the profound black and blue fruits build slowly in the mouth, achieving great energy and depth with a beautiful velvety frame, finishing long and perfumed.”
