Ever wondered what your favorite Tete de Cuvee is? One of our members did, and she found her answer in the most fun (and tasty) way! In a side by side, blind comparative tasting she selected 10 of the top releases from the most famous houses all from the esteemed 2002 vintage! Wines from Nicolas Feuillatte, Gosset, Krug, Billecart Salmon, Piper Heidsieck, Cristal, Salon, Ruinart, Bollinger, and Dom Perignon filled the glasses and the room took on a golden hue. Excitedly everyone sat down with their notepads in front of them ready to find which wine would reign supreme! An amazing evening ensued. Conversation bounced across the table as the attendees spoke their thoughts out loud and the group began to break down the individual selections.
Simon joined the group and gave his thoughts as well, and also started placing his producer guesses on the paper. He and Champagne Dave may have the most experience Champagne palates in the country, but even they were beguiled by the selections side by side. Simon then exclaimed if number 6 isn’t Dom Perignon, I will quit the wine business! Dave needed to top him, so he swore he’d eat his shirt! Well the group was ready to see if the men would indeed be eating their words, so I began the reveal.
Number 10 was the Hostess’ favorite selection, so I began at the end and worked my way back. Krug Champagne was her favorite selection as well as a few others at the table- Dave and another guest chose arguably the cheapest bottle on the table Gosset Celebris as their favorite. I of course had to save the number 6 reveal for the end…
It was indeed Dom Perignon! These men know their sparkling wine!!!
Laughs, smiles, and even a gold crown made for yet another special evening spent in the back room of Graileys!
