Our events with Krug Champagne are always something special. Olivier Krug is focused (some may say obsessed) with creating the perfect atmosphere in which to enjoy his wines. He believes tasting Champagne is as much emotional as it is physical. This year instead of hosting our Krug Dinner Experience at Graileys, we brought it off site into the intimate space of Tei-An restaurant in the One Arts Plaza.
We began our evening with a reception enjoying 167th Grande Cuvee. Still standing in the reception space- we tasted the 2000 Clos d’Ambonnay- first in silence, then paired with a sonata played on harp. We focused on the way the effervescence expressed itself across our palates, felt the acid wash over our cheeks, and as we opened our mouth- finishing the taste we experienced the harmony of flavors and smiles broke across every face in the room! We moved our reception to the dining room. An intimate candlelit room met us for dinner- a 5 course evening that delighted each and every one of our senses. The room erupted in applause as Teiichi, chef-owner of Tei An, walked in to thank us. It was a remarkable evening, with spot-on, perfect food pairings for the epic wines of the evening which included: Krug 2004 Vintage, 2000 Krug Vintage en magnum, Krug 22nd Edition Rose en Magnum, and Krug 160th Edition Blanc en Jerobaum. We tasted incredible lamb carpaccio, mackerel sashimi, chargrilled lobster, A5 Kobe beef, and Teiichi’s famous Soba noodles. With each course Olivier shared tales of his family’s passion for winemaking and their experiences of the years. It was a beautiful evening shared by friends. It is a night we will not forget soon.
