Moon Tsai was founded by Larry and Mary Tsai, who have quietly built a cult following by sourcing fruit from Napa’s most prestigious vineyards and working with legendary winemaker Philippe Melka. Their Hillside bottling draws from rugged, high-elevation sites on Howell Mountain, where intense sun exposure, volcanic soils, and cooler nights yield Cabernets of profound structure and depth. The 2019 vintage is a commanding wine, showing saturated aromas of blackberry compote, cassis, dark cocoa, and graphite, underpinned by Howell Mountain’s signature minerality and fine-grained tannins. On the palate, it’s dense and layered, with notes of espresso, black cherry, and crushed rock, balanced by fresh acidity and a long, resonant finish.
