2022 Dominio de Pingus Flor de Pingus
Produced by the visionary Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck, Dominio de Pingus is one of the most famous, highly prized, and actively hunted wines on the planet, let alone Spain. Peter arrived in Spain in 1993 to manage a new project, Hacienda Monasterio. While planting and developing Monasterio, he became fixated on the old vines he saw dotted around the Ribera del Duero landscape. By the 1995 vintage, Peter had found several ancient vineyards that inspired him to make his own wine, calling it 'Pingus' after his childhood nickname. Showing he is capable of routinely racking up 99 & 100-point scores with his eyes closed, making arguably Spain's most expensive trophy wine, Sissek also produces a tiny quantity of Pingus' second label - Flor de Pingus, a much more affordable younger brother made from ancient Tempranillo vines on which Robert Parker once commented - “In the price/quality sweepstakes, this might be Spain’s finest wine.” This genius Danish winemaker pushes the region's famous varietal to its limits, and the Double 96 Point 2022 Flor de Pingus is the key to the Pingus experience for just a fraction of the price.
