2021 Atomique 3 Le Basalt Chardonnay

The 2021 Atomique³ “Le Basalt” Chardonnay is a limited Oregon Chardonnay from the Willamette Valley’s Eola-Amity Hills, crafted by the collaborative project Atomique³, which unites Chilean winemaker Felipe Ramirez, terroir expert Pedro Parra, and famed Meursault vigneron Jean-Marc Roulot in pursuit of mineral-driven, site-transparent wines inspired by Burgundy. The project was conceived as a tribute to the late vintner and filmmaker Mark Tarlov and focuses on identifying rare vineyard sites capable of producing world-class Chardonnay through detailed soil study and minimal-intervention winemaking. Le Basalt specifically comes from a small vineyard rooted in thin silty red clay over fractured volcanic basalt, where shallow topsoil forces vines to dig deep into ancient rock, yielding a wine noted for tension, depth, and pronounced mineral energy. Made entirely from Chardonnay grapes, it typically shows vibrant orchard fruit, apricot, herbal lift, and structural precision, reflecting both the cool Oregon climate and the team’s philosophy that great wines begin in the geology beneath the vines.

2022 Rose & Arrow Eola Springs Chardonnay

The 2022 Rose & Arrow Eola Springs Chardonnay is a limited-production, terroir-driven Oregon white crafted from 100% Chardonnay grown in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA, a cool, wind-influenced region known for producing wines with precision, acidity, and mineral structure. The boutique Rose & Arrow Estate was founded in 2016 by Mark Tarlov and Burgundian winemaker Louis-Michel Liger-Belair with the goal of isolating tiny vineyard parcels planted on rare volcanic soils and translating each site’s geological identity into the glass. Their vineyards span 152 acres, yet only about 5.2 acres are considered ideal micro-plots capable of delivering the complex textures and aromas they seek, highlighting their obsessive focus on terroir expression. The Eola Springs site, planted in fractured basalt soils at roughly 600 feet elevation, is the estate’s only white-wine vineyard and produces very small quantities—around 125 cases—resulting in a rare bottling prized for its elegance and mineral profile.
