2021 Melka CJ Cabernet

The 2021 “CJ” Cabernet Sauvignon from Melka Wines represents one of the most personal expressions within the portfolio of celebrated winemaker Philippe Melka. Named after his daughter, the CJ bottling reflects Melka’s philosophy of crafting wines that merge intellectual precision with emotional resonance. Trained in Bordeaux at the University of Bordeaux’s enology program, Melka refined his craft working alongside Jean-Pierre Moueix and later at iconic estates such as Château Haut-Brion before arriving in Napa Valley in the mid-1990s. His consulting work helped shape the identity of several of Napa’s most sought-after estates—including Bryant Family Vineyard, Hundred Acre Wine Group, and Vineyard 29—while his own label, founded with his wife Cherie Melka, allows him to explore small-production wines built around exceptional vineyard sites. The 2021 CJ Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from a selection of premium Napa Valley vineyards, typically emphasizing hillside parcels that provide excellent drainage and naturally low yields. The 2021 vintage in Napa Valley is already regarded as one of the region’s most compelling modern harvests—marked by a dry growing season, small berries, and remarkable concentration paired with vibrant natural acidity. In the glass, the wine displays the hallmarks of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon: cassis, black cherry, and dark plum layered with graphite, cedar, crushed rock, and subtle baking spice. Melka’s signature style is evident in the balance between opulence and structure—silky yet firm tannins, polished oak integration, and a long mineral-driven finish that emphasizes site expression rather than sheer power.

2023 Favia Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2023 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Favia continues the philosophy that husband-and-wife team Andy Erickson and Annie Favia established when they founded the estate in 2003. Erickson—whose résumé includes winemaking roles at Screaming Eagle, Harlan Estate, and Dalla Valle Vineyards—brings an Old World sensibility to Napa Cabernet, emphasizing site transparency, moderate extraction, and architectural balance over sheer scale. The 2023 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from a mosaic of meticulously farmed vineyards spanning benchland and volcanic sites across Napa, giving the wine a layered structural profile. Cabernet Sauvignon thrives here because of Napa’s dramatic diurnal shifts and well-drained volcanic and alluvial soils, which encourage thick skins, small berries, and naturally high phenolic concentration. For a Master Sommelier’s palate, the varietal signature is unmistakable: cassis, black cherry, graphite, and crushed rock layered with violets, tobacco leaf, and subtle bay laurel. Erickson’s restrained oak regimen allows the terroir to lead, highlighting Cabernet’s intrinsic architecture—firm but polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and the kind of structural symmetry that suggests two decades of graceful evolution. The 2023 vintage in Napa, marked by a long, temperate growing season and extended hang time, allowed phenolic maturity to develop slowly, producing Cabernet with remarkable aromatic precision and tension—qualities that align perfectly with Favia’s terroir-first philosophy and make this bottling both intellectually compelling and cellar-worthy.

2018 Robert Foley Purple Label Cabernet Sauvignon

Our old friend Bob Foley is the genius who produces Graileys best-selling Cabernet vintage after vintage. This magnificent 100% Cab never fails to deliver, and it's been a massive favorite of our members since the 2013 vintage, selling out swiftly on every release. It also has the honor of being our most consistently re-ordered Cab and is one of those special items we are guaranteed to sell as much as we can get our hands on. Bob started his career at Heitz Cellars, moving on to Markham and then to Pride Mountain. He retired from Pride in 2006 to devote himself full-time to his own winery and consulting projects. The 94+ Point 2018 Robert Foley 'Purple Label' Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of fruit sourced from ridge-top mountain vineyards and the stony soil of Calistoga. This remarkable Cab has hit the mark again with fully ripe black cherry, and black currant aromas, nuanced with suggestions of cedar and camphor. The palate is full and even with a rich middle that is perfectly balanced by natural grape acidity and silky fine tannin. Take Jeb Dunnuck's advice - "If you’re looking for a rock star Cabernet under $100, this is for you."

2021 Royal Prince Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Royal Prince Wines was founded in 2016 by vintner David Green with only one aim, offer pedigree wines without pretense, and to make delicious wines for the many, not cult wines for the elite. To help him accomplish this, in late 2019 David brought major-league winemaker Maayan Koschitzky (Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle) on as a partner. Maayan is Director of Winemaking for Atelier Melka, where he has worked for eight years under the tutelage of the great Philippe Melka (Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, Dominus Estate, Ch. Haut-Brion, Ch. Petrus) so the pedigree is unquestionable, and the outcome is inevitable as everything these guys touch turns to gold. The top-class fruit is sourced from multiple iconic vineyards through David & Maayan's personal contacts, although they remain tight-lipped as to their sources, but it's obvious we are talking about some real heavy-hitting vineyards. We had tremendous success with the 2019 and sold everything we could get our hands on. We just tasted the 2021 again this afternoon and it's drinking like many loftier labels which demand 3 times the price. Royal Prince Reserve is the consummate overachiever, and it embodies one of our core aims - to find, taste, and recommend to you the highest quality wines, for the best price possible. This really is an outstanding Cab for the money. Load Up - First come, first served.

2021 Snowden Cabernet Sauvignon Brothers Vineyard

The 2021 Snowden Cabernet Sauvignon Brothers Vineyard, grown on the family estate in the volcanic benches of St. Helena, Napa Valley—planted in 1955 and producing estate wines since 1993—is a compelling expression of precision and depth under winemaker Diana Snowden Seysses. In this vintage, tiny clusters from a dry winter and mild growing season yielded concentrated fruit, with 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot hand-harvested in mid-September, fermented with native yeasts, and aged 19 months in 30% new French oak before bottling in May 2023. Medium-bodied yet intense, with poised acidity and layered flavors spanning black cherries, blood orange, tobacco, and cedar, this vintage delivers both immediate appeal (especially with a touch of decanting) and aging potential through 2036, making it a standout Napa Cabernet with estate pedigree, critical acclaim, and classic elegance.

2022 Brilliant Mistake Napa Cabernet

Brilliant Mistake is an enigmatic wine project which is on the irreversible countdown to cult wine status and blast-off is well under way. John & Stacy Reinert came from different backgrounds to establish this intoxicating up and coming winery in 2013, with two barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2015, after the first two vintages, and in a flash of brilliance Maayan Koschitzky was appointed winemaker. Maayan, who is renowned for cutting his teeth at Screaming Eagle & Dalla Valle, is a man for all seasons, as he also happens to be Director of Winemaking at the world acclaimed Atelier Melka and is furiously driven by the pursuit of perfection. With one eye always on excellence, production has slowly grown but still remains at a microscopic 300 cases, making this young upstart cult incredibly hard to find. Brilliant Mistake is at the tip of the spear of single varietal showstoppers, and the 97 Point 2022 Cabernet is poised to become one of those extremely elusive 'just beyond your fingertips' wines you can't quite get hold of.
