2020 Long Shadows Pedestal Merlot
Looking for a Merlot that turns heads and changes minds? The 2020 Long Shadows ‘Pedestal’ Merlot does exactly that—and then some. Born from a dream team collaboration between Long Shadows founder Allen Shoup and Bordeaux legend Michel Rolland, this wine is anything but soft-spoken. Rolland brings his Right Bank roots to Washington’s Columbia Valley, crafting a Merlot that’s rich, structured, and unapologetically elegant. The 2020 vintage draws from some of the state’s most prized sites—think Red Mountain depth with Wahluke Slope generosity. In the glass, it’s all dark cherry, plum, violet, cocoa, and subtle espresso—wrapped in fine tannins and lifted by just the right snap of acidity. It’s plush, polished, and powerful, with the kind of finesse that makes you rethink what New World Merlot can do. Rated 95 Points by Jeb Dunnuck this wine lives up to its name—Pedestal isn’t just a clever label, it’s where this bottle belongs.

2021 Double 00 VGW Chardonnay
Chris Hermann decided in 2015 to start his own wine project capitalizing on his European roots and Oregon traditions. Dominique Lafon was among those who encouraged him, calling Willamette Valley Chardonnay “The best in the New World.” Moved by the stunning Chardonnays of Meursault, he decided to launch his burning winemaking dream, producing Chardonnay in the vein of famed Burgundy winemaker Pierre Millemann (Coche-Dury, Roulot). Under Milleman's expert consultation, 00 Wines set out to craft Chardonnay in the style of Burgundy’s finest. “We want to produce Leflaive quality Chardonnay in Oregon" explains Hermann. The incredible 2021 '00' VGW Chardonnay is produced using the same 'Black Chardonnay' method employed by Coche-Dury & Roulot, a technique that exposes grape juice to a substantial dose of oxygen before fermentation, resulting in a remarkable transformation from dark brown or black juice to a radiant golden hue. Eric Guido of Vinous noted "If served blind, my mind would immediately go to Premier Cru white Burgundy." So, it appears Hermann's plan is paying dividends, and the sublime quality of this hauntingly beautiful Chardonnay is giving Burgundy's elite labels a real run for their money.
