1982 Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Hors-Serie
he 1982 Hors-Série from Piper-Heidsieck is one of the most intellectually compelling and rare releases in modern Champagne—a wine that bridges history, innovation, and the profound effects of time. Founded in 1785, Piper-Heidsieck has long been known for its bold, forward-thinking approach, and the Hors-Série collection represents the ultimate extension of that philosophy: revisiting historic vintages and reinterpreting them through contemporary winemaking insight. This 1982 bottling is a reimagining of the house’s legendary Brut Sauvage 1982, brought back to life under the direction of Chef de Cave Émilien Boutillat, who disgorged a small parcel of bottles in 2022 after decades of undisturbed aging. Composed of approximately 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay sourced from top crus, the wine spent an extraordinary 39 years aging on its lees before disgorgement—an almost unheard-of duration that profoundly shapes its character.

2008 Henriot Cuvee Hemera
Two hundred years after Apolline Henriot founded Maison Henriot, the Champagne region experienced a classic year. 2008 was a perfect reflection of the region with cool and uncertain weather in winter, spring and summer followed by a return of the sun as the harvest approached, just as if the Goddess Hemera herself used all her powers to produce one of the greatest ever vintages. Henriot’s 200th anniversary harvest realized Apolline’s vision as Cuvee Hemera 2008, showcasing both the perfect conditions of the vintage and the six founding grands crus of the House. Last Wednesday afternoon we hosted the Champagne Henriot team at Graileys, who held a Henriot masterclass for the trade. We tasted the 2008 Hemera, and with almost 14 years on its lees it revealed itself to be a stunning vintage Champagne of incredible depth and sophistication. Considering the spectrum of the world's finest Champagnes tasted regularly in the club, to find one that really stands out, it has to be something truly special...and this one is. At the BEST PRICE IN THE COUNTRY this is the Champagne deal of the year.
