1938 Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one of the most important of Bordeaux’s celebrated “Super Seconds.” This Deuxième Cru Classé Pauillac is a genuine First Growth contender, and much of its modern-day stature can be attributed to the exceptional stewardship of the Rouzard family of Champagne Louis Roederer, led by Frédéric Rouzard, President of Pichon Lalande and head of Roederer. Situated beside Château Latour and in close proximity to Léoville Las Cases and Ducru-Beaucaillou, Pichon Lalande occupies one of the most enviable positions in the Médoc. The estate consistently produces wines of extraordinary pedigree, regularly surpassing its Second Growth peers and, in the finest vintages, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Bordeaux’s First Growths. “Voluptuous,” “feminine,” and “silky” are words frequently associated with Pichon Lalande. The estate’s generous proportion of Merlot brings an alluring velvety texture and sensuality to a wine that nevertheless possesses the concentration, structure and depth demanded of a great Pauillac.
