2023 Domaine Hubert Brochard Château de Fontaine-Audon Sancerre
The 2023 Domaine Hubert Brochard Château de Fontaine-Audon Sancerre is a terroir-driven Loire Valley white made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grown on the estate’s famed silex (flint-rich) soils, where vines root deeply through thick rock layers that help grapes ripen quickly while retaining vibrant acidity. Crafted using gravity pressing without destemming and aged for more than six months in stainless steel with a finishing portion matured in amphora, the wine is designed to emphasize purity, mineral expression, and aromatic finesse, showing floral notes, mineral texture, and a long, precise finish. The Brochard estate traces its origins to 1900 in Chavignol, when founders Aimée and Hubert Brochard farmed goats, crops, and vines by hand; through generations, the family expanded the domaine while maintaining a strong commitment to expressing Sancerre’s diverse soils and parcels. Today the winery spans about 89 hectares across seven of the appellation’s most renowned villages and entered a new era in 2022 when it joined the Bollinger family group, with winemaker Rodrigo Zamorano leading production and a long-term goal of full organic certification. The 2023 vintage was shaped by unusual weather swings—from cold spells to heat waves and drought—but ultimately produced balanced fruit with harmonious acidity, giving this cuvée both freshness and structure.
