Chateau Margaux

With origins dating back to the 12th century, Chateau Margaux is a legendary estate, becoming one of the most prestigious of the premier Growths of Bordeaux. In the 1855 classification, the chateau was awarded the title of First Growth and was one of only four estates to obtain a rating of twenty out of twenty. With the acquisition of the property by André Mentzelopoulos in 1977, Chateau Margaux is today writing a new page in its history, having elevated the Grand Vin of Chateau Margaux to the absolute pinnacle of quality. Robert M. Parker Jr. - "This wine is just now reaching full maturity, much later than I initially expected. It is a classy, elegant example of Margaux possessing a dark ruby/purple color, and a moderately intense nose of sweet black currant fruit intermixed with minerals, vanillin, and floral scents. The wine is medium-bodied, with beautifully sweet fruit. This linear, more compressed style of Margaux possesses a good inner-core of sweet fruit, and a charming, harmonious personality."

Wine Spectator - "This is about as alluring as it gets aromatically, with singed alder, juniper, bay and charcoal notes out front, hinting at power but turning beguiling as they flow into the core of steeped red currant, dried currant and black tea. The charcoal note makes an encore, with a lovely twinge of old-school character holding the finish. Always a great debate vis-à-vis the '90, but the slightly darker profile here gives this wine a lovely bit of extra drama.
