The 2007 Livio Sassetti Pertimali “Dieci” Brunello di Montalcino is a rare commemorative bottling created to celebrate an exceptional vintage and released roughly a decade after harvest, reflecting the estate’s philosophy of patience and long maturation. The Sassetti family has farmed in Montalcino for over a century across four generations, with Livio Sassetti helping found the Brunello di Montalcino consortium in 1967 and expanding the historic Pertimali vineyard on the famed Montosoli hill, a site especially prized for Sangiovese cultivation. The estate is known for preserving old-vine genetics and maintaining traditional methods, including aging wines for extended periods in large Slavonian oak casks to highlight terroir and structure. Made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso, the 2007 “Dieci” shows classic Brunello character shaped by clay-limestone soils and hillside exposure, with aromas of red fruit, spice, and balsamic tones and a palate combining firm yet refined tannins with long persistence. Critics awarded it up to 95 points, describing flavors of cherry, blackberry, leather, smoke, and cedar with a balanced, lingering finish and aging potential through about 2030.
