Bordeaux - At Peak
1995 Chateau Cheval Blanc
Chateau Cheval Blanc is the leading estate in the St. Emilion region of Bordeaux. Famous for producing what are arguably the top Cabernet Franc-based wines in the world, this mythical chateau is one of just 4 estates holding the highest rank of 1er Grand Cru Classe (A) status from the Classification of St. Emilion. With Cheval Blanc, you get to experience the sexy opulence of Pomerol coupled with the flamboyance of St. Emilion as Cheval Blanc straddles the border of Pomerol and St. Emilion. Constantly creating candidates for wine of the vintage, Pierre Lurton is undisputedly one of the most talented winemakers in the world.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "One of my favorite Cheval Blancs, it remains to be seen if the 1998, 2000, and 2008 will live up to this offering. It is the ripest wine of the aforementioned vintages, with a complex bouquet of tobacco leaf, Christmas fruitcake, sweet black fruits, bordering on fig and plum, but no hint of overripeness, and notions of new saddle leather, mint, and incense. The gorgeously expressive aromatics are followed by a full-bodied wine revealing abundant glycerin as well as elevated alcohol, but it is not hot, and nothing is out of place. Expansive, rich, and revealing the nuances and complexity that come from bottle age, it is at its peak of maturity where it should remain for another 10-15 years"
1995 Château Angélus
The Shining Light Of Saint-Émilion
In Saint-Émilion, on the right bank of the Bordeaux wine region in France, the renowned Château Angélus stands as a shining beacon of light and has brought forth centuries of winemaking, producing the most exceptional wines. This prestigious estate has a rich history, a dedication to quality, and a unique approach to winemaking that has earned it a place among the elite châteaux in the world. The pinnacle of Château Angélus's winemaking mastery is the grand vin. Crafted with precision and care, this wine undergoes an elaborate aging process in new oak barrels for approximately 18 months before it is bottled. However, the journey doesn't end there—once bottled, the grand vin patiently matures for at least five years before it is released. The remarkable concentration, weight, and structure of Angélus's wines allow for further aging, with some bottles evolving gracefully over decades. Each sip tells a tale of meticulous craftsmanship and the unique terroir that defines Château Angélus. - GCLA
Robert M. Parker Jr. - "A superb effort in this vintage, Angelus's opaque purple-colored 1995 is a massive, powerful, rich offering with plenty of ripe, sweet tannin. The wine's aromatics include scents of Provencal olives, jammy black cherries, blackberries, truffles, and toast. A very full-bodied wine, it is layered, thick, and pure. This is the most concentrated of the 1995 St.-Emilion premier grand crus. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025."
