Petrus
Petrus is one of the world’s most celebrated wines, synonymous with rarity, prestige and unparalleled quality. Located on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, this iconic Pomerol estate is famed for its extraordinary Merlot and unique blue clay terroir. Petrus is admired as one of the planet's finest and most exclusive wines. While the estate dates back to at least 1837, Petrus rose to international prominence in the 20th century under the visionary leadership of Madame Loubat, who became the sole owner in 1945. Recognizing its immense potential, she partnered with Jean-Pierre Moueix, who became the exclusive agent for the wine. In 1969 the Moueix family acquired a majority stake in the estate, and in 2018 their ownership expanded to include Alejandro Santo Domingo who purchased a 20% share - underscoring this estate's global allure. Pétrus has earned its legendary reputation purely on the merit of its wines, commanding respect and admiration that often surpasses even the most prestigious classified growths of the Médoc. This ascent to viticultural stardom, achieved without the benefit of an official classification, stands as a testament to the estate's exceptional terroir, meticulous craftsmanship, and uncompromising dedication to excellence.
2014 Petrus
Vinous - "The 2014 Petrus has a bouquet that storms from the glass with exotic red cherries, blood orange, strawberry tart and cedar scents, only calming down after several minutes. Rich and opulent – although they are not facets of a truly great Petrus to me. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet core of candied red fruit, fine structure, a 2014 that is letting it all hang out so soon after bottling, which causes me some concern in terms of what it has left in reserve for long-term ageing and evolution. It just does not deliver a knockout blow on the slightly brittle finish, completing a very good Pomerol but in my opinion, it is not the greatest Petrus in recent years."
