Robert Parker awarded the 1990 Château Sociando-Mallet a score of 96 points, praising its "stupendous aromas of crushed berries, currants, cherries, and minerals," and describing it as "full-bodied and extremely concentrated, with very ripe fruit and loads of polished tannins."
