In the commune of Pauillac, home to three of the five Bordeaux first growths, lies Château Latour, an estate famed for the phenomenal longevity and consistent quality of the wine that it has been producing for centuries. The history of Château Latour can be traced back all the way to the 12th century, to the period of flourishing wine trade between England and France. It earned a prestigious First Growth spot in the Bordeaux 1855 Classification, and its track record of absolute excellence is hard to believe. Their wines serve as a cornerstone of the highest attainable quality in Bordeaux and represent the luxury that is synonymous with the best wines money can buy. Chateau Latour also produces Les Forts de Latour, and so exquisite is the quality of the Chateau's little brother, Simon Staples of BBR quips "It is almost an insult to call this a Second Wine." Made from parts of the flagship L'Enclos vineyard and the older vines of the property, the 2010 is being hailed by James Suckling as "Perhaps the greatest Les Forts ever." Adding considerable weight to this accolade, Robert Parker Jr. chips in with "Possibly the most profound Forts de Latour ever produced." At only a quarter of the price of the 2010 Chateau Latour, the magnificent 2010 Les Forts de Latour is impossible to resist.
