2021 JL Chave St Joseph Rouge

We’re delighted to present the 2021 J.L. Chave Saint‑Joseph Rouge, a powerful yet graceful Syrah from one of the most storied Rhône producers. The Chave family's winemaking legacy in Mauves stretches back to 1481, and today Jean‑Louis (16th generation) and his father Gérard continue to champion traditional, biodynamic practices across their terraced plots on the revered Hermitage hill, alongside newer Saint‑Joseph holdings. After severe frost in 2021 meant skipping the Clos Florentin cuvée, only the Saint‑Joseph was crafted—a meticulous blend of granite‑infused lieu‑dits (Bachesson, Chalaix, Dardouille, and others). Fermented using native yeasts in wood and stainless steel, then aged 15–18 months in French barriques, this cuvée delivers textbook Rhône character: vibrant black and dark red fruits, pepper, graphite and floral notes, with a refined mineral backbone. This wine is drinking well now after decanting, yet structured sufficiently to evolve through 2030, offering collectors a rare chance to enjoy a pure Saint‑Joseph from this legendary domaine.
