2023 Alphonse Mellot La Moussiere Sancerre
As far back as 1513 local records mention the Mellot family as wine merchants and growers of wines of excellent quality, gaining further recognition when César Mellot was appointed as Wine Advisor to Louis XIV in 1698. At the beginning of the XIX century Alphonse Mellot founded a tavern in Sancerre where one could savor the local wines and began a flourishing trade. In 1881 he was granted a license to ship his wine throughout France and all over the World, this marked the beginning of an international presence, which has been developed by the family business from father to son ever since. Today, with centuries of winemaking tradition under their belt, the Alphonse Mellot label sits at the top of the wine producing pyramid in Sancerre The house’s ‘Tete-de-Cuvee,’ Domaine la Moussière, is one of the greatest 'classic' Sancerres: linear, lithe, acid-driven and elegant. We had the pleasure of hosting Alphonse Mellot (the19th) at the club last week, and we tasted through his stunning portfolio. The 'La Moussiere' is the Burgundy lover`s Sancerre, and a candidate for Graileys go-to summer white. Back up the truck.

2015 Chateau Pichon Lalande
Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one of the most important of the 'Super Seconds' and this Deuxieme Cru Classe Pauillac estate is a genuine First Growth contender. Credit must go to the stewardship the estate has had under the Rouzard family of Champagne Louis Roederer, and Frederic Rouzard, head of Roederer and President of Pichon Lalande.Situated next door to Ducru-Beaucaillou, Leoville Las Cases and bordering on Chateau Latour, Chateau Pichon Lalande is one of the most sought-after Pauillac wines, regularly outclassing their Second-Growth siblings in pure quality, and occasionally eclipsing the First Growths in side-by-side critical reviews. Adjectives such as 'Voluptuous', 'feminine' and 'silky' are words frequently employed in describing the stunning wine from Pichon Lalande, and the 98 Point 2009 & 2015 vintages are all of those things and more, beautifully exhibiting the velvety properties of Merlot. Often softer and more approachable in its youth than other Medoc producers, it nonetheless ages incredibly well, and is considered to be a solid, slam-dunk investment among the savviest of serious collectors.

2021 Rotem & Mounir Saouma "Inopia" Blanc
Rotem & Mounir’s wines are breathtaking. This spectacular white is more reminiscent of a quality Meursault than a Rhone. The Inopia will undoubtedly change your perception of the traditional wines of the region. The kaleidoscope of the terroirs he works with are reflected in his cellar, like a mad scientist`s lab, there is a combination of barrels, foudres, cement and concrete eggs, all used to tease out the unique characteristics of his top quality fruit in a brighter, more modern version of the classic Rhone varietals. The Inopia Blanc shakes up the old, flabby, more viscous white Rhones, and opens your eyes to a lighter, more complex, Burgundian style white. The 2021 Inopia Blanc is a forward-thinking, groundbreaking wine at a shockingly modest price point. Trust us.
